Jenson Button is focused on McLaren fixing their current problems in this years’ Formula 1 season before talking to the team about extending his contract.

When asked on Thursday about his contract talks and whether or not any progress has been made, Button simply replied:

“No, no more progress. But that’s the way it is. We’re here, we’ve spent four good years together already, in our fifth year together. And we both want, I think, to work together in the future, but it’s just not time yet, the right time.”

“We’ve got a lot of other issues to solve first before we start thinking about the future too much”.

However, he is not putting the team out of mind just yet, with his career in F1 racing what appears to be long from over:

“We’re in a good place, I think my experience does help me a lot. I still feel very young at heart, fitter than ever and I have all that experience. I’m in a great position, I feel that I’ve got a lot more to give in the future in Formula One. I definitely can’t see an end to my career, this is my life, and where I want to be in the future.”

Starting the 2014 season with a double points finish, the McLaren team with drivers Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen, the team has since had relatively little success compared to rival teams Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari.

McLaren have come to Canada with a strong of upgrades for the car and hope that this will help propel them forward as the season reaches the halfway mark. Button is confident the team will fight for wins again this year:

“I think with Ron [Dennis] back in charges and Eric [Boullier] I think they’re doing a great job of really moving the team on and changing certain things so that we will be fighting at the front again. But it just takes time things don’t change overnight even though we’re pushing very, very hard.”
