Paul, how would you sum up Barcelona?

“I think seventh was as much as we could have hoped for, being realistic about it. We probably could have got sixth had the DRS been working properly, but we had a bit of an issue with when to use it and when not to use it, a bit of a telemetry thing. Some stints were good and some stints we struggled more, but given the short time we had to optimise the car I think we did a good job. We had a busy race from the team’s point of view, and I think that’s why we’re fairly happy with the end result.”

In effect the team is currently fighting for position with McLaren rather than the teams it battled with last year. How do you feel about that?

“They did well in qualifying, although in the race fortunately we got the better of them. I think we were a little bit quicker towards the mid part of the race, and that makes a difference. But we have to concentrate on our own job and realistically we need to keep our eye on all the teams around us. We are still fighting Sauber and Williams, while Toro Rosso are the ones who have moved on this year with some strong races.”

Are you looking forward to Monaco?

“I am, it was a place that was rewarding for us last year. We’ll try and go there and obviously score points like we did last year. With a bit of luck you’ll see more pit stops – I think that’s what Monaco was missing last year – a bit of strategy. It was a one-stop for most cars and I think that probably was the best thing. You can defend, but if the tyres drop off too much, I don’t think you can.”
