Barcelona Day 2 off to a foggy start

The second day of pre-season testing at the final Barcelona test was delayed this morning as the Circuit de Catalunya was plagued by heavy fog, which caused the session start to be delayed by 30 minutes.

Naturally track sessions cannot begin under heavy fog, as the medical helicopter needs to be able to safely take off for a session to be able to start. However, this time was used wisely by the McLaren team, as they immediately took the opportunity to complete pit-stop practice as the rest of the paddock waited for the sun to burn through the thick fog.

As the session finally got underway, the drivers’ were limited to only completing installation laps as the last of fog cleared. Pastor Maldonado caused a momentary red flag, as the Venezuelan stopped at Turn 9. An explanation for this stoppage has yet to emerge.
