A new motorhome for Renault F1

The first European Grand Prix of the season is upon us and it almost feels like the start of a new season altogether. Things are a lot different when you get back to Europe and the trucks and motorhomes are out in force, which always makes the paddock look a lot more colourful.

The latest addition to the paddock is our brand new motorhome, which is already attracting lots of attention. This will be our new base for the European season and offers a place for the team members to relax and eat over the weekend. That means we’ve had to bid a fond farewell to our old motorhome after seven years of loyal service, and it’s time for everybody to get acquainted with our new home.

In terms of the layout, there’s a lot more room than we had in the past. The main space is divided into two areas: the left hand side is reserved for team members, while the section on the right is open to the media and VIP team guests. On each side we also have the cabin offices, which house our marketing and communication teams, the senior management and the drivers.

“Building the new motorhome takes eight people about 30 hours” explains Paul, the man in charge of overseeing the set-up. “We knew the old one inside out and could put it up and take it down with our eyes closed, but we’re still learning about the new one and its various quirks. Fortunately we have three huge binders of information, which tell us how to solve any problems we may encounter. Everything is noted from how to wire the televisions to how to install the floor panels.”

This morning, the motorhome was a busy place with everyone still trying to work out the best way to use the space available ahead of the weekend. Our hostesses were also getting to grips with the new coffee machine, while the chefs were organising their fridges. Most importantly, though, the internet is working so we can connect with the world!

The general consensus in the paddock is that the new motorhome looks very smart.
