Radnor makes Rally GB return

The organisers of Wales Rally GB have confirmed that this year’s route will include a mix of the old and the new, with a brand new Super Special in host city Cardiff and the return of a classic forest stage last used 11 years ago.

Wales Rally GB, which will run from 11th - 14th November, is the final round of the 2010 season and will be based for the second successive year in the Welsh capital Cardiff.

Based largely on the gravel roads of mid and south Wales, this year’s route will return to return to the classic stage in Radnor Forest, near Presteigne, Powys for the first time since 1999. The high speed 15.1 km Radnor Forest stage will run twice on Saturday 13th.

A new challenge comes in the shape of a Cardiff Bay Special Stage which will run twice on the evenings of Thursday 11th and Saturday 13th November from the Cardiff Bay barrage into the dock area.

The route also includes a return to the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells for undercover remote service on the Friday and Saturday, while Margam Park, near Port Talbot, will host the final two competitive stages on Sunday 14th.

Andrew Coe, chief executive of event organiser, International Motor Sports Limited, said: “This year’s Wales Rally GB is bigger and better than ever and the whole organising team, myself included, is delighted to be launching the event. To bring a special stage to the Welsh capital, in the beautiful setting of Cardiff Bay, is really exciting and will be great for fans, families and those who are completely new to the world of rallying. Add to this our return to Radnor Forest and competitive ticket prices and the ingredients are there for a fantastic world-class sporting event that will do Wales and the UK proud.”

Plans to run additional national events on Wales Rally GB are in place and organisers hope to announce these shortly
