Turkington happy with first WTCC outing

WTCC newcomers Colin Turkington and the WSR eBay Motors team experienced a positive maiden weekend at Portimão.

The reigning British Touring Car champion set pole position in the Independents’ class and managed to squeeze among the top-ten for Q2.

In the first race Turkington was leading the independents before being involved in a collision, then he completed a good recovery in the second race to finish tenth overall – scoring his first championshiop point – and second of the independents.

“It was a good experience and I learnt a lot today. I was unlucky in the two races, but those kinds of things can always happen when you are mid-grid. I have taken a lot of encouragement from the Portuguese races, the pace of the car was good and there are many positive signs that we can take with us to the next couple of events,” said the driver from Northern Ireland.

Team Principal Dick Bennetts commented: “The whole team did a fantastic job, we have not competed in the WTCC since November 2007 and the WSR eBay Motors team worked really well together and delivered two good results. We came here to make an impression in the Independents’ class and we did exactly that. The BMW 320Si was 100% reliable and I couldn’t have asked any more. We are now all looking forward to Brands Hatch.”
