Andersson: test helped recce preparation

PG Andersson says his pre-event test for Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés on Monday has helped his preparations for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge event in more ways than one.

Not only did the session enable him to sample the various modifications made to his PROTON Satria Neo Super 2000 for the first time, but it also helped him and co-driver Emil Axelsson prepare for the reconnaissance, which is currently in progress.

Andersson has never contested the Las Palmas-based event before but was able to start the recce with some knowledge of Gran Canaria’s demanding asphalt stages.

“When you have a test before the recce it always helps you because you have a feeling for the area, the roads, the speed and the grip,” said the Swede.

Andersson is one of two factory PROTON Motorsports drivers competing on the island rally: Italian Giandomenico Basso will be at the wheel of a second Satria Neo for the first time.

Rally Islas Canarias forms round two of the 12-event IRC season. It gets underway with a ceremonial start in Las Palmas on Thursday night.
