Hadjar still secure at Red Bull for 2027 - Mekies

Laurent Mekies has played down suggestions that Isack Hadjar’s Red Bull seat could be vulnerable after Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda both adapted quickly during the Frenchman’s injury absence at Zandvoort.

Speaking to L’Equipe before the Dutch GP, the Red Bull team principal made clear that Hadjar’s position remains strong.

"It’s a minor incident that we’ll quickly forget," he said when asked about the broken wrist.

"He’s meeting our expectations. His first part of the season has been excellent."

Mekies says Hadjar’s biggest strength is the way he absorbs information and keeps improving.

"He’s like a sponge, absorbing everything he can to improve. He seeks out everything he can to improve with the team, with Max."

"Many drivers can pull off a surprise in a race, be incredibly fast one day. But Isack manages to demonstrate his speed in every race."

That consistency is particularly significant given Red Bull’s recent difficulties with Verstappen’s teammates.

"We’re also aware that we haven’t always done everything perfectly regarding this second seat," Mekies acknowledged.

"But Isack doesn’t see it as a competition. Whether Max is ahead or behind, he’ll look at how to do better."

When asked directly about Hadjar’s future, Mekies said he sees "no reason" for the partnership to end.
