The new StefanGP team has already admitted that Kazuki Nakajima would be the driver of one of its cars should the team get the green light to compete.

Now it seems that rumours regarding 1997 champion Jacques Villeneuve and the team could in fact be true.

Villeneuve himself is saying little about the prospects of racing with the new team other than he expects them to be the most competitive new team on the grid, due to its links with Toyota.

"We are very near to a contract with Jacques Villeneuve, and probably also with another driver as our reserve driver,” team boss Zoran Stefanovich told Autosport. “But the first one which will be with us is Kazuki Nakajima."

The team’s participation this year hinges on the fate of rivals USF1 and Campos Meta.
