Upgrades working well for Williams (…)

After a mixed day of emotions for the Williams outfit, the overall feeling within the garage is of confidence after the upgrades introduced on the car earlier today performed well. Whilst Pastor Maldonado completed all of his tasks for the day, Bruno Senna suffered a setback when he hit the Wall of Champions during the second practice session.

Spanish Grand Prix winner Pastor Maldonado is confident heading into qualifying tomorrow and also for the race on Sunday, after the car performed consistently on long runs throughout todays practice sessions. However, the Venezuelan driver still feels that work is required before the team has a perfect qualifying balance.

“We completed all of the things that we had planned for the session so we have had a productive day and are in a good place heading into the weekend.” Explained Pastor Maldonado, “We still need to work on the set-up to get the right balance, but overall the car felt good and was consistent, particularly on the long runs. We have also brought some upgrades to this race and they were performing well which is encouraging.”

Whilst Pastor Maldonado had a satisfying day in his Williams, Bruno Senna was plagued with various issues on the car, including a DRS issue in the morning, which culminated in the Brazilian driver suffering a heavy impact with the Wall of Champions on the exit of turn 14 in the afternoon session. This incident destroyed the new rear-wing the team were running at the time, as the mechanics set to work in repairing the car in preparation for tomorrows final practice session and then qualifying.

Both Maldonado and Senna will be eager to utilize their time wisely in the final practice session tomorrow morning, as the two make their final preparations ahead of qualifying for the race. With mistakes punished greatly around the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, the Williams duo will be mindful not to make any throughout the day.
