Sebastian Vettel unfazed by FIA rule (…)

As Red Bull head to the only Grand Prix of the year where they have not yet been victorious, reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel seems unfazed by the recent FIA rule clarification that means the floor of Red Bull’s RB8 requires slight alterations. After his team-mate took victory around the streets of Monte-Carlo, Vettel is eager to become the first repeat winner in 2012.

Sebastian Vettel came agonizingly close to taking victory in last years Canadian Grand Prix, however a last lap error handed victory to Jenson Button. After the recent rule changes by the FIA, Sebastian Vettel has stated these issues are little more than a distraction as he aims to return to his dominating ways this weekend.

“It’s a bit surprising, isn’t it?” Explained Vettel, when asked how difficult it is to understand the recent rules changes. “But in the end I don’t think that this issue can distract us and I honestly hope that this matter is settled soon once and for all. It is just a bit distracting that first it is illegal, then legal, and then illegal again. So what I mean is that in the future people should make a final decision - and spare us this back and forth.

“It was indeed a bit of an improvement, though as they were added to the car along with other changes it is hard to say what they are really doing performance-wise.” Continued the 24-year-old. “It would be too simple to say: holes on the car - rocket performance; holes closed - lame duck.”

However, Sebastian Vettel still believes the RB8 is not the easiest car to drive. After dominating the 2011 season, this year has been somewhat of a return to reality for the German star. After only taking one victory in the opening six races of the season, Vettel is undeniably burning to return to the top step of the rostrum.

“I have to admit it is still not the easiest of cars to drive and it’s no secret that it is still not the car of my dreams.” Said the reigning World Champion. “But on the other hand you have to come to terms with the situation, as nothing else is available so you better get your game together and make the best out of the situation. My belief is that if we manage to get the car further up the grid in qualifying then the race results should be better, as the race speed was always something that raised hopes for more.”

Although Sebastian Vettel has only won one race so far in 2012, the German is only 3 points behind Championship leader Alonso, tied with his team-mate Mark Webber. With the field so competitive in 2012, one mistake could have severe implications on a drivers Championship battle. Both Webber and Vettel will be eager to have a competitive race weekend in Canada, as they try to end Red Bull’s winning drought in Montreal.
