Schumacher proud of comeback race

Michael Schumacher contested this weekend his first GP in three years and was delighted at the way things went.

Although he admitted to being a little bit rusty after Saturday’s qualifying, the German said he didn’t feel tired after the 49-laps race.

“Still today, a day after my comeback race, I feel extremely well. With regards to the fitness, this race was not at all difficult for me and I was not exhausted at all”, he said on his personal website. “This is partly due to the fact that those tyres, in that heat, do not allow for more speed.”

Schumacher’s ambitions for this first race were not really high as the former World Champion knows he will need time to get up to speed.

“But all in all I have to say: I am very, very happy and proud about how it went, considering I was completely out for three years and did not have a lot of driving for preparation”, he added. “It would be strange to assume that I would come in, sit in the car and drive circles around the others – I, for my part, did not assume that in any case."

The Mercedes driver finished the race in sixth place, ahead of current World Champion Jenson Button. Considering he had not been racing for three years, this was a respectable result for Michael... and there is certainly more to come from the seven-time champion.
