Race suspended in Canada

The Canadian Grand Prix has been red-flagged on lap 25 due to the bad weather conditions.

The track was wet when the cars lined up on the grid and the race started behind the Safety Car. It properly got underway on lap 4, with Sebastian Vettel leading the way. Lewis Hamilton then prompted the return of the Safety Car on lap 8 as he tangled with his teammate and hit the wall.

The race resumed on lap 12. Some drivers went for intermediate tyres but soon realized it was not the best of choice as rain started to pour down on the circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The Safety Car was once again deployed and led the field for a few laps before the race was suspended.

This decision may have been prompted by several drivers’ reports of undriveable conditions and poor visibility.

Cars are now lined up on the grid, waiting for the rain to ease off and for the race to be restarted.
