Q&A with Romain Grosjean
"It’s a fantastic track"
Romain, Albert Park is a track you’ve never raced at before. How was your first experience of the Melbourne circuit?
It’s a fantastic track, the changing scenery as you drive through the park is incredible and there are already quite a few fans here creating a good atmosphere. I’ve been learning the track this afternoon, focusing on improving my lap times as the day went on and I got to know the circuit better. We had to be patient, but we managed to get some decent laps in at the end which is very valuable.
It must be difficult to take any real conclusions from today with the mixture of an unknown track and variable weather, but how did the E20 feel?
The car felt very good, I’m happy with the balance. We weren’t so happy with the rear end in the first session but the team did a great job as always turning things around in the break and I instantly felt much better behind the wheel.
The team decided not to run for a good portion of the second session today. What was the thinking behind that decision?
We waited to be able to go out on slick tyres, as we expect it to be dry for the rest of the weekend so there was no point taking any unnecessary risks. I’m happy to get the season going and looking forward to qualifying tomorrow. It will be interesting for sure, I feel comfortable and confident in the car which is the main thing.
