Pirelli appointed as F1’s official tyre supplier

The World Motor Sport Council met in Geneva today and has ratified the appointment of Pirelli as the single tyre supplier for the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The deal is for a period of three years, commencing in 2011.

The FIA added that “the sole supplier will undertake to strictly respect the sporting and technical regulations implemented by the FIA.”

This announcement comes after months of discussions and a long wait for the teams who were eager for a decision to be made.

Pirelli was FOTA’s and Bernie Ecclestone’s favorite candidate.
