Perez receives 5-place grid penalty for gearbox change
The weekend worsens for the Swiss outfit
After a disappointing qualifying session for Sauber, Sergio Perez has had to endure a 5-place grid penalty as his mechanics have been forced to change the Mexican’s gearbox. This comes after Perez suffered a gearbox issue in Q2 during Qualifying, which prevented him from setting a time.
This penalty means Sergio Perez will start tomorrow’s race from 22nd on the grid, nine places below his team-mate Kamui Kobayashi who qualified 13th. After a relatively successful start to qualifying, the team suffered a miserable end with Perez suffering the gearbox issue and Kobayashi from a lack of grip and traffic.
The Swiss outfit will be hoping for a more successful race tomorrow, however it’s going to be an uphill struggle starting from 13th and 22nd.
