Paul di Resta set to incur grid penalty for gearbox change
Paul di Resta will drop five places after qualifying
Paul di Resta is set to incur a 5-place grid drop for tomorrow’s Italian Grand Prix, after the Force India driver suffered a gearbox issue on his VJM05 machine during second practice yesterday. Although the Scot was able to complete both Friday sessions without a hitch, his mechanics discovered the issue later in the day after the two sessions.
This means Paul di Resta will join the Williams of Pastor Maldonado in receiving a grid penalty prior to Sunday’s race, however the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso has avoided any such penalties after he suffered from a gearbox issue during second practice yesterday. Due to the fact that both the engine and gearbox on the Ferrari weren’t intended to be used during the race, the Spaniard is not set to incur any grid penalties.
Paul di Resta will be undoubtedly striving for a competitive qualifying session later today, seeing as he’ll drop five places once the session has come to conclusion. The Scot finished last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix in 10th position, bringing home only one point for the Silverstone-based outfit.
