Nicolas Prost: The R30 was fast, very fast
"It is similar in feel to F3 but with 750 HP instead!"
As the latest stage of the World Series by Renault (WSR) took place at the Nürburgring over the weekend, we managed to catch-up with Nico Prost - son of Formula One legend, Alain - for his take on what it was like to trial Lotus Renault GP’s R30 car at the track.
Nico, you managed to enjoy a weekend behind the wheel of the R30 - how was it?
Wow, it was great! I spent the weekend in Nürburgring in front of loads of motorsport fans, and I managed to do some demo runs for them. I could really feel the F1 spirit when I did it!
What skills did you manage to showcase?
Well, I was able to do some demo runs, some donuts and spins, which were great fun. I also did some start simualtions, which gave fans a chance to see just how hard the acceleration on an F1 car is. The weather was really bad, it was very rainy so the track quite slippery. The car is fast, very fast in fact - it has a good pace.
How did it feel getting behind the wheel of an F1 car?
It’s something I really enjoyed. The car is heavier than an F3 car, for example. It is similar in feel to F3 but with 750 HP instead!
One weekend in the cockpit of an F1 car, what’s next?
Well, I’m competing in the Le Mans Series for the Lola-Toyota team and we are currently positioned first in the LM P1 Manufacturers Classification. We have got the Six Hours of Imola coming up early in July before Silverstone and Portugal to come later this year, so I’m looking forward to it.
