Nico Rosberg has explained how he would prefer Michael Schumacher to remain at Mercedes next season, after talks regarding the future of the 7-time World Champion continue. The two Germans have been team-mates at Mercedes since 2010, and have assisted the German marque in progressing each season.

Although Michael Schumacher has suffered a difficult return to Formula 1, the two have consistently scored points on a regular basis, including numerous podiums and a race victory for Rosberg in China earlier this year. With Schumacher’s contract running out at the end of the current season, the German’s future in Formula 1 is a popular topic within the paddock.

“I hope that Michael will stay on - I am very pleased having him as team mate.” Explained Nico Rosberg, “We all work very well together and he is racing on a very high level. Together we have pushed the team forward, so I would appreciate it if he would stay.”

Michael Schumacher achieved his first podium since his return to the sport last time out in Valencia, after surging through the field on much fresher tyres towards the end of the race. With Rosberg already a race winner in 2012, the Mercedes team undeniably have the ability to be highly competitive. Michael Schumacher is still searching for that elusive 92nd Grand Prix victory, and his podium in Valencia will only intensify that burning desire to return to the top. Whether Schumacher will be able to clinch that victory this season remains to be seen.
