Michael Schumacher still aiming for victory in Monaco

It was a day of mixed emotions for Michael Schumacher, after the 7-time World Champion secured pole-position for tomorrows Monaco Grand Prix, yet had to unfortunately suffer a 5-place grid penalty. This means Schumacher will start 6th for tomorrows race, with Red Bull’s Mark Webber on pole.

However, with Schumacher starting from the third row of the grid, he is still aiming to win. This comes after the German said before qualifying that his weekend aims were to qualify on pole-position, start the race from 6th and then fight his way to victory. With the winner of the Monaco Grand Prix most commonly coming from the first two rows of the grid, the stats seem to be against a Michael Schumacher victory tomorrow.

“Monaco to all of us is the track of the year, which has a very prestigious position, and to manage pole position here after what I have gone through in the past two-and-a-half years is just fabulous.” Explained the 7-time World Champion. “I told you guys already in the press conference, my situation is going to be pole, start the race in sixth and I’m going to win it. That’s what I’m here for and what I’m going to aim for.”

After the first five unpredictable and highly exciting rounds of the 2012 F1 Championship, a victory for Michael Schumacher isn’t necessarily out of the question. If the Mercedes driver did miraculously win, it would undoubtedly go down as one of his most famous victories, and would be his sixth career victory around the streets of the Principality.
