Michael Schumacher’s Mercedes F1 W03 car has suffered a major blow ahead of this afternoon’s Belgian Grand Prix, after the German’s KERS pack failed on his car. With the race set to get underway in under an hours time, the Mercedes mechanics are now currently fast at work as they try to replace the KERS pack before the race starts.

The KERS pack is the part of the car which holds the energy which is collected and then dispensed once a driver activates his KERs boost device. On a high speed circuit such as Spa-Francorchamps, this device is imperative if a driver wishes to finish competitively during the 44-lap race.

This misfortune comes only several minutes before the German would normally take to the grid for his 300th Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher has enjoyed copious amounts of success around Spa throughout his career, and is supposed to line-up 13th for the Belgian Grand Prix which gets underway in under a hour.
