Michael Schumacher is confident ahead of this weekends Canadian Grand Prix, as the 7-time World Champion believes Montreal’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve should suit Mercedes. After an misfortunate run of bad luck for the German so far in 2012, Schumacher will be striving for success during this weekends race.

So far in 2012, Michael Schumacher has only managed to score a meagre two World Championship points in comparison to his team-mate, Nico Rosberg, who has already scored 59 points including a victory in China. With Schumacher failing to finish four of the six races in 2012, serious question marks have began to circulate that the German driver will retire after this season.

However, after Michael Schumacher set a stunning time in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix to secure pole-position, it’s obvious that the 7-time World Champion still has what it takes to be competitive in Formula 1. Unfortunately for Schumacher, he had to endure a 5-place grid drop after securing pole in Monaco. With no such penalties upon him as the F1 fraternity arrives in Canada, a competitive result is definitely in Schumacher’s sights.

“The race in Montreal is usually action-packed, like we saw last year.” Said Michael Schumacher, who has won the Canadian Grand Prix seven times before. “The characteristics of the circuit should suit us, and we are counting on our car performing well there. As I said: a trip to Montreal is always worth it. And let’s hope we can make our trip this year especially worthwhile.”

Nico Rosberg has had a highly competitive start to the 2012 season, after taking his maiden Grand Prix victory at the Chinese Grand Prix back in April. Having finished every race since that victory in the points, Rosberg agrees with his experienced team-mate in believing Montreal should suit Mercedes.

“The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal is a great track, and I’m really looking forward to our visit there.” Explained Nico Rosberg, “With its low downforce and slow corners, a little bit like Monza, the track should suit our car. We’ve made good progress over the past few weeks, and that was clear from the performance in Monaco.”

With Nico Rosberg already a race winner in 2012, Michael Schumacher will itching to finally return to his winning ways. Since making his return to the sport, Schumacher has failed to even step onto the podium. He will undeniably be eager to change that fact this weekend, and possibly even become the seventh different winner out of seven races in 2012.
