British star Lewis Hamilton is in no rush to decide on the future of his Formula 1 career, as the 2008 World Champion’s contract expires with McLaren at the end of the current season. With speculation ripe that Hamilton could leave the Woking-based outfit at seasons end, he has stipulated that the Championship battle is his main priority at the moment.

After making his debut with McLaren in the 2007 season, Lewis Hamilton has stuck with the team through thick and thin. From the highs of the 2008 season where he was crowned World Champion in a frenetic closing race in Brazil, to the lows of 2009 where he was disqualified from the Australian Grand Prix for misleading the stewards. However, after recent events with McLaren, most notably the monumental error in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix which subsequently saw the Briton excluded and sent to the back of the grid, rumors have begun to circulate of a potential move to Red Bull or even Ferrari.

"I haven’t even discussed it," said Lewis Hamilton to reporters in Canada. "It is just because I underestimated how difficult the season was going to be. I underestimated how busy I would be, and then I also realized how unimportant it is at the moment. The Championship is more important than what I have to do for my next contract. My future at the moment is not important. I might not even see next year. So what is important is that I capitalize on maximizing this year."

Lewis Hamilton has yet to win a Grand Prix this season, however with some consistent results the former World Champion still sits 4th in the Drivers Championship only 13 points behind Fernando Alonso atop the standings. With rumors hinting that Hamilton could well be leaving McLaren even before the end of the season, the Briton remains adamant that he has no interest in thinking about a contract for 2013.

"I am not looking at anyone.” Continued Hamilton, “I am just trying to focus on this season and trying to focus on winning. I have other people to worry about those kinds of things, and when the time comes and we sit down and they what do you want to do, then I can give them an answer. But I don’t have to do that at the moment and I am not even thinking about it."

Lewis Hamilton has won twice before around Montreal’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, and will be striving to do so again this weekend. However, with the unpredictability set to continue even Lewis Hamilton has acknowledged that anyone can win in 2012.
