Lotus have raised eyebrows over recent weekends after testing their own rendition of the highly controversial Double-DRS device which was initially pioneered by Mercedes at the start of the season. The complex device was the main talking point at the start of the season, however other teams have since begun working on their own design.

During practice sessions at the German and Hungarian Grands Prix, Lotus have been busy working on their own design of the Double-DRS device. This device is rumored to offer the Lotus cars a speed boost even when the device is not active, however the team have yet to run the device on both cars during the all-important qualifying session and the race. So far it has only been Kimi Raikkonen who has been entrusted in testing the device, however for the Belgian Grand Prix it is believed that both Raikkonen and Grosjean will use the device for the entire race weekend.

When asked about his thoughts on using the new ‘device’, Romain Grosjean was understandably buzzing with excitement. Lotus have come agonizingly close to victory on numerous occasions this season, and a speed boost from this device could be the catalyst for Lotus to finally take a victory.

“If it [the device] gives me an advantage I’m certainly looking forward to driving with it!” Enthused Romain Grosjean, “I’m sure it will be a good thing, especially if we have it working well. Hopefully it gives us an advantage and the race win that we want.”

Romain Grosjean is confident the Spa-Francorchamps circuit will benefit the Lotus E20, which has proved exceedingly quick throughout the season. Grosjean has fond memories of the Spa circuit, having won last season’s GP2 Series Championship title at the circuit. These fond memories could well be emulated this weekend, as the Lotus duo prepare to debut their Double-DRS device.

“It [the Spa circuit] should fit the E20 pretty well.” Continued Romain Grosjean, “The second half of the season looks good in terms of how the tracks should suit the car. Hopefully we’ll have everything we need to win races. I’m looking forward to it as it’s a special track; it’s Spa and also I won the GP2 Series title there last year. It’ll be good to be back there again.”

For weeks now the Lotus duo have been predicted to win a race, however this weekend could see those predictions come true. Both Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean have been victorious around Spa-Francorchamps throughout their careers, and both will unquestionably be striving for that elusive first victory of the season this weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix.
