Grosjean: We could be in a position (…)

After P7 and P6 in Free Practice 1 & 2 respectively for Romain at the Circuit de Catalunya this afternoon, the Frenchman is feeling positive about the E20’s performance heading into the rest of the weekend.

Romain, what have you learnt today?

Tyre degradation, just as we expected it, is very high. The car is also working rather well on high fuel, so we are pretty happy about this. We did some race simulations this afternoon and that was pretty positive and encouraging too.

What exactly do you do on a Friday? Is the programme of the day very precise?

Yes, absolutely. We plan what we’ll do on a Friday the day before and these plans can be altered until we start FP1. There are various runs we do in the morning and then we test the tyres we have for the weekend during FP2. We also do race simulations to judge the car’s performance with different fuel levels.

When do you actually prepare for qualifying?

We actually prepare for qualifying in earnest on Saturday morning which means time is quite tight, but we must adapt and understand the car as quickly as possible to get ready.

What is your feeling about the car this weekend and what are your hopes?

A lot will depend where we are on the starting grid; we need to do well in qualifying. Overtaking at this circuit isn’t easy, but I feel that our car is performing pretty well so far so hopefully we could be in a position to score some good points this weekend.
