ERS failure holds Rosberg back in Canada

Nico Rosberg has confirmed that an Energy Recovery System failure on his car was the reason for his loss of the Canadian Grand Prix lead.

Speaking in the drivers’ press conference following the race, Rosberg explained to the gathered media that the ERS system failed on the car, causing the brakes to go as the two are directly related. Struggling with breaking under speed, Rosberg had to surrender the lead of the race to Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo with just a few laps remaining in the Grand Prix.

Once under control, Rosberg was able to hold of the advances of Ricciardo’s teammate Sebastian Vettel, finishing in second place and securing important World Championship points in a race where only half the Mercedes team finished the race.

Mercedes will spend the next two weeks’ analyzing every angle of data from the car before the calendar resumes in Austria on the second to last weekend in June. With the season nearing the halfway mark, Mercedes will want to ensure they continue to move ahead of their competitors and in particular, Red Bull Racing.
