Dani Clos to drive in first practice at Silverstone
"I’m very happy to step into the F112 once again"
HRT have announced that their Spanish reserve driver Dani Clos will once again get behind the wheel of the F112, as he partners Pedro de la Rosa during first practice for the British Grand Prix. The former GP2 driver will have fond memories of Silverstone, after finishing on the podium three times throughout his GP2 career.
Dani Clos last drove the HRT F112 at his home race at Barcelona back in May, making Spanish F1 history alongside de la Rosa as the first all-Spanish driving line-up for a Spanish team at non-other than the Spanish Grand Prix. With HRT eager to continue their improvements, after a slow and frustrating start to the season, Dani Clos will be eager to assist his team throughout the 90 minute session on Friday morning.
"I’m very happy to step into the F112 once again in Silverstone, a place where I’ve got good memories since I’ve made the podium every time I’ve been in GP2.” Explained the 23-year-old. “After Barcelona I’ve really been looking forward to this new opportunity. The work we’re carrying out with the team is positive and I think that I can make a good contribution. I will be able to run in better conditions than in Barcelona because the car was new back then and I had to carry out various aero tests. Now I’ve got a new opportunity, not to prove anything but to work with the team and evolve as much as we can.”
Although HRT have recently been improving, Pedro de la Rosa expects the British Grand Prix to be a tough weekend for the Spanish outfit. However, the teams aim for the weekend is to improve on their result in Valencia, where de la Rosa and Karthikeyan finished 17th and 18th respectively.
