Barcelona Test: Vettel tops day one
As track conditions improve
Testing resumed at Barcelona at 2pm after a one-hour lunch break.
After a relatively quiet morning – started on a wet track – the afternoon running was more eventful.
The Williams team lost some valuable time as it had to change the Cosworth engine at the back of its FW33. KERS-related problems cost time to the Lotus Renault GP team and Vitaly Petrov had to wait until 4.20pm to join the action.
There were also a few troubles for Force India and Red Bull Racing. They still didn’t prevent Sebastian Vettel from setting the fastest lap time in the closing moments of the session. He beat Alonso by more than a second. Alguersuari was third fastest despite an off at Turn 4 in the afternoon.
Kobayashi set the fourth fastest time. The Sauber driver ran out of fuel early in the afternoon.
Michael Schumacher completed a full race distance this afternoon with two pit stops. He set the eighth fastest time of the day.
