Barcelona Test: Massa fastest of all

The four-day Barcelona test came to an end this afternoon for ten of the twelve teams.

HRT packed up yesterday night while Team Lotus cut its test short early this morning after a mechanical failure caused Jarno Trulli to crash.

Race simulations were the order of the day for most of the teams as they continue their preparations for the first races of the season. The final hour was dedicated to some performance chasing runs and Felipe Massa emerged on top with the fastest time of all.

Webber was 2nd fastest with Buemi 3rd fastest for Red Bull’s sister team. Neither of them managed to improve on his morning time.

The afternoon session was interrupted twice – first when Pastor Maldonado parked his Williams FW33 on the start/finish straight, and then when Schumacher stopped his Mercedes at Turn 10.

The field was due to fly to Bahrain next week but will almost certainly cancel this trip and look for an alternative venue. FOTA should make an announcement tonight about its decisions and plans.

Barcelona is tipped to host the next test in replacement of Bahrain, with Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina the other possibility.
