Alguersuari wins Massa's kart event

Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari emerged victorious in the sixth running of the International Challenge of Go-Kart Champs, the end of season charity event organised by Felipe Massa.

It took place at the Arena Sapiens in Florianopolis, Brazil. The two legs were won by Jules Bianchi, but he was disqualified after the second leg when his kart was found to contravene the weight regulations, being 600 grammes under the regulation minimum. Despite this, the Frenchman, making his debut at the event was the moral victor, having shown all his talent, getting the better of very experienced drivers and champions from the past and present from Formula 1 and Indycar.

Having been second to Bianchi before the disqualification, Alguersuari had the most points (45) beating the local man Felipe Massa into second on 29 and Lucas di Grassi who took the bronze medal with 28 points. “After a complicated year like this one, getting to the podium was a positive feeling,” said Felipe after the second leg, which saw him engaged in a close duel with Alguersuari. “I am sure this result is a good omen for the next Formula 1 season.”
