Rally Argentina set for thrilling battle

Guy Wilks says the battle for victory on Rally Argentina this week will be wide open due to the highly competitive nature of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge field.

The Škoda UK Motorsport driver is second in the IRC standings and has a strong pedigree on Rally Argentina after winning the Junior World Rally Championship section of the event back in 2006.

He said: “Nasser Al-Attiyah has very good knowledge and knows the landscape very well but I don’t think any of the drivers can be discounted. Nobody really has an advantage, even Federico Villagra, who knows the rally well, has something to learn because he’s in a new car. I’m very new to my car; Kris Meeke knows his car but hasn’t competed here before so nothing is tipping the scale. It can be anybody’s rally.”

Wilks is one of the favourites to win Rally Argentina following his second place finish in Brazil last time out. However, in addition to Al-Attiyah, Meeke and Villagra, Wilks is set to face intense opposition from fellow Škoda Fabia drivers Juho Hänninen and Jan Kopecký. Bruno Magalhães also cannot be discounted in his Peugeot 207.
