Menya Krózser is hoping for a change of fortune in the IRC 2WD Cup after the Honda ace posted his third consecutive retirement of the year on Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse last week.

The Hungarian two-wheel-drive champion was in a strong sixth in class when a mechanical fault struck his Civic Type R on the fifth stage of the island event.

“After five kilometres from the start we started to have problems, which proved to be terminal,” Krózser explained. “It’s obviously very disappointing – up until that point we were standing sixth in the classification of the 2WD and with a chance of third place by Saturday night.”

Krózser was competing on the demanding Corsican roads for the first time this year but was nevertheless confident of a strong result.

“It’s frustrating as the car had performed great in testing and we were doing so well,” he said. “But I guess in a rally season you always have to face bad luck at some stage. I hope we’ve had our lot for the season and that from our next rally onwards I can make a clean sweep towards the end of the year.”

Honda won the IRC 2WD Cup manufacturers’ crown in 2011.
