Formula One’s young driver test ended today after three days of action at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Jean-Eric Vergne kept double World Champions Red Bull Racing on top from start to finish. He consistently set the pace and was fastest on all three days of running. On Thursday, he was the sole driver under the 1’40 barrier and was almost two seconds faster than his main rival, Sam Bird.

The Mercedes driver worked on 2012 exhaust solutions for the team and completed no less than 102 laps. Jules Bianchi set the third fastest time for Ferrari. Back at the wheel of the McLaren, Oliver Turvey was fourth fastest ahead of Force India’s Max Chilton.

Despite a problem in the afternoon, Esteban Gutierrez ended the day in sixth place. Driving for Williams, Mirko Bortolotti was seventh fastest.
