Williams take double points finish (...)

Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna have given Williams Team Principal and co-founding member, Sir Frank Williams, something to cheer about as they both finished within the points during the Chinese Grand Prix. Sir Frank Williams turns 70 tomorrow, as his team head to Bahrain with a handful of points in the bag.

Both drivers’ successfully pulled off a two stop strategy in a race which normally takes three stops to safely get to the finish. Bruno Senna and Pastor Maldonado finished 7th and 8th respectively ahead of both Ferrari, Sauber, Force India and Toro Rosso. Maldonado even outwitted 2-time World Champion Fernando Alonso as the Spaniard tried a maneuver around the outside which subsequently ended with Alonso running off the track.

“I am so happy for the whole team.” Explained Mark Gillan, the teams Chief Operations Engineer. “It is an excellent result to get both cars into the points, the culmination of everyone’s hard work and dedication, coupled with great drives by both drivers to manage their tyres and make a two-stop strategy work.”

With Williams taking a total of 10 points from the Chinese Grand Prix, they are now residing in 7th place in the Constructors’ Championship. This is a huge step forward from their dismal season last year, which saw the team struggle to be competitive for the majority of the season. Already, Williams have 13 points more than they achieved throughout the entire 2011 season.
