Williams are aiming to get a double points finish at next weekends Canadian Grand Prix, after suffering a less-than-successful race in Monaco last time out. After Maldonado took a highly impressive victory in Spain, Williams have only been able to score one point in what is turning out to be a highly competitive 2012 season.

The Canadian Grand Prix is notorious for producing dramatic races, in which the safety car can be a reoccurring factor over the 70 lap race. With the weather also a major factor throughout the weekends proceedings, Williams are aiming for another competitive race on a track which they have won on seven times throughout their career.

“On the back of a mixed weekend in Monaco the whole team is looking to demonstrate further improvement in Montreal, with the aim of getting both cars home in the points.” Explained Williams’ Chief Operations Engineer, Mark Gillan. “Montreal is a great race and usually full of drama with a very low pit lane loss which pushes the strategy towards having more stops. The high likelihood of a safety car deployment adds to this drama.”

Pastor Maldonado showed a stark contrast in driving style throughout the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, whereas Bruno Senna managed to bring one point back to the teams Grove-based factory. With the Brazilian driver making his first appearance at the Montreal circuit since 2010 next weekend, Senna will be looking to make the most of the Friday practice sessions prior to the race on Sunday.

“Canada is one of the most challenging tracks of the season.” Said Bruno Senna, “It is also important to have as much track time as possible before the weekend to learn the track surface because it can evolve quickly. Our car is looking competitive at this stage of the season so hopefully we can show good pace here.”

The two Williams’ haven’t finished in the points together since the Chinese Grand Prix, when tyre wear produced the most frenetic closing laps seen in recent history. With Williams already clocking up 44 points in the Constructors Championship, they will undeniably be hoping to add to that growing tally next weekend.
