StefanGP forced to cancel scheduled test

StefanGP had hoped to test this week at the Portimao circuit in Portugal in order to shake down the new Toyota-based S-01 challenger for the first time. However, Autosport reports that the test has been cancelled due to Bridgestone being unable to provide tyres to the Serbian team who are equally unwilling to run the car on GP2 rubber, increasingly commonplace in unofficial F1 testing.

"We cannot do the test at the moment and we are still trying to find a solution," team boss Zoran Stefanovic said. "We have no tyres and will not test on tyres that are not suitable for the car to go testing at full speed. We now need to see what our options are, but we definitely need to do something to sort this situation out."

The team are currently at the mercy of the FIA and awaiting possible entry into the championship next month. USF1 has already told reporters that they cannot compete and has asked to join the championship later in the season, while Campos remains in a state of flux.

StefanGP meanwhile seems ready to go and has the public backing of F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone.

Until the FIA clarify the status of USF1 and StefanGP, the latter cannot make plans to be on the grid in Bahrain.
