Q&A with Eric Boullier

Third in the Constructors’ standings, just a whisker from second in the Drivers’ standings and a million miles from the struggles of 2011; Team Principal Eric Boullier gives us his take on the best [and worst] of the season so far…

Eric, what would you qualify as your favourite moment of the 2012 season so far?

I think all the podiums and definitely the double podiums of Bahrain and Budapest are my favourite moments so far. Compared to last year we have had a very different season and on the whole it has all been much more enjoyable!

Has there been a worse moment?

If there were worst moments I would have to say the DNF’s.

Has there been a time that you found particularly scary?

Yes, in Budapest when Kimi and Romain were side by side – that undoubtedly was the scariest moment so far this season…

What is the moment you are the most proud of this season so far?

When we are at the circuit, there are a lot of emotions with good results. However I’d say that the proudest moments have been when I’m back here at Enstone; meeting the guys when I go around the factory and feeling the great atmosphere of this place. To see people motivated, dedicated and happy to be here makes me proud to be a part of the team.

After having gone through some difficult years, seeing the team at the stage we’re at now is a great achievement.

Finally, what are you most looking forward to in the second half of the 2012 season?

I’m looking forward to having similar weekends to what we saw in Hungary because I think that things are coming together well now. Both drivers are very eager to do well, both them and the race team are starting to really deliver with the car, as is everybody back at Enstone.

The package we have is working well, with our car having been strong so far in the first part of the season; although we have missed a lot of opportunities to bring more points home, but that’s life… In the second part of the year we will be a stronger Lotus F1 Team; we have the ability to score at every race and even to get wins, not just one either…
