Pirelli will run their new experimental hard tyre compound throughout Friday practice at the German Grand Prix, after initial plans for the teams to test the new compound at Silverstone were thwarted due to the exceptionally bad weather on Friday.

The new compound allegedly has a wider operating window, which should make it an easier compound for the teams to work with. However, unlike Silverstone where Pirelli brought the original hard tyre compound, the soft and medium tyre compound will instead be on offer to the teams throughout the German Grand Prix. This will therefore make it impractical for the teams to extensively run this experimental compound, as they’ll undoubtedly be eager to see how the soft and medium compounds behave around the 4.574 km (2.842 mile) circuit.

"We will probably take it to Hockenheim.” Explained Pirelli’s motorsport director, Paul Hembery. “We will ask teams if we can take it there, as we are quite keen to see it – although it is not ideal for the nature of the track. I would say it is really for next year. We are just trying to understand the correlation between our test car and the current cars."

Pirelli will undeniably be praying for dry weather on the Friday, which will enable the teams to experiment with the new compound. However, as past races have shown, rain is always a possibility around the legendary German circuit.
