Jenson Button targeting a more competitive qualifying in Canada

Jenson Button will be aiming for a more competitive qualifying session this weekend in Canada, after the 2009 World Champion failed to progress through to the top 10 qualifying shootout at the last two Grands Prix in Spain and Monaco. Since making the switch to McLaren for the 2010 season, Button has yet to start a race from pole.

However, as Jenson Button prepares for the Canadian Grand Prix his aim is firmly set on completing a competitive qualifying session. Last year the British star took a memorable victory after a last lap overtake on Sebastian Vettel in a wet/dry race. Already a winner in 2012, Button has undeniably gone downhill since taking victory way back in March at the Australian Grand Prix.

“Montreal is always a race I look forward to.” Explained Jenson Button, “This weekend, though, it’s going to be important to get a handle on the car in qualifying. At the last two races, Q2 hasn’t gone my way, so, no matter what pace you have in the race, you’re still compromised on Sunday afternoon, particularly as the pack is so tightly bunched at the moment. My aim for the weekend will be to have a stronger qualifying performance and to be able to build on that in the race.”

In a season which is still amazingly wide open, Jenson Button desperately needs to return to his usual form this weekend in Canada if he has any desires set on becoming a Championship contender. If the former World Champion wishes to be victorious this weekend, first he’ll have to qualify well on Saturday.
