Daniel Ricciardo was disappointed after the European Grand Prix, as the Australian driver believed his Toro Rosso team deserved a better result in Sunday’s race. After running as high as 4th throughout the safety car period, Ricciardo could only manage 12th when the checkered flag fell.

After his team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne retired due to an incident with the Caterham of Heikki Kovalainen, all pressure was upon his shoulders to bring home some valuable points for Toro Rosso. As it transpired, Daniel Ricciardo made contact with the other Caterham of Vitaly Petrov, which ruined any chances the 22-year-old had of scoring points.

“The final result of the race is disappointing.” Explained Daniel Ricciardo, “I think I drove well and the team deserved better. Apart from my finish position, it was a really good race. After my second stop I was pushing to the end and I had Petrov going quite slowly in front of me, I went to get around him and he defended by going a bit wide. So I tried to switch back and I feel I gave him some racing room, but we still made contact because perhaps his move was a bit too aggressive. Anyway, that cost me a chance to get into the points, but there were some positives to take away from this race, even if they are not so visible from the outside.”

After this eventful race weekend, Daniel Ricciardo and Toro Rosso now look ahead to the British Grand Prix in two weeks time. The legendary Silverstone circuit was the location of Ricciardo’s debut with HRT last season, and the Aussie will be hoping for a more competitive race result.
