Strong start for Polish champion (…)

Kajetan Kajetanowicz has made a strong start to his first International Jännerrallye by topping the FIA European Rally Championship Production Car Cup section after the opening stage.

The multiple Polish champion, who said before the start that competing on the Austrian event was like a ‘dream come true’, was 21s faster than David Glachs with pre-event favourite Beppo Harrach third quickest after admitting his choice of narrow slick tyres was the wrong call for the largely ice-free test.

Former world champion Stig Blomqvist, in a Gassner Motor Sport Mitsubishi, was 1m15.2s down on Lotos Rally Team Subaru Impreza driver Kajetanowicz. Meanwhile there was early disappointment for Hungarian driver Frigyes Turán, who is reported to have crashed out in his Impreza.
