Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Kris Meeke has vowed to keep on fighting on the final day of Sata Rallye Açores.

Last year’s event winner is 51.7s off the lead in fifth overall in his Peugeot UK 207 Super 2000. With the top five positions reversed to determine the running order, Meeke will run first on the road throughout today’s remaining seven stages and is expected to lose even more time by cleaning the road of the loose surface gravel.

He said: “There are some sections that will be very difficult but there are some sections that aren’t bad and we have to accept it and work on the set-up for the future. It’s difficult but we just have to continue. Sometimes you have difficult days at the office but I’m still here doing what I love doing.”

Meeke completed Friday’s leg suffering from a fever. He added: “My health is the least of my problems. Okay I still have a fever but it’s not a big problem.”
