Qatar, FP2: Monteiro and Honda move ahead in WTCC
Valente kept up his strong form for LADA
Tiago Monteiro went quickest in second practice at FIA WTCC DHL Race of Qatar, edging team-mate Norbert Michelisz in a Honda one-two.
The Portuguese racer hit the top of the times with five minutes left on the clock, posting a time of 2m01.476s under the lights at the Losail International Circuit. Michelisz was just 0.064 seconds slower on his best effort shortly afterwards.
Second in the opening session, Hugo Valente kept up his strong form for LADA in third, ahead of first practice pacesetter José María López, Gabriele Tarquini and Rob Huff.
Zengő Motorsport enjoyed a fine session with their Honda Civics, with young Hungarians Daniel Nagy and Ferenc Ficza claiming seventh and ninth respectively – the former quickest in the WTCC Trophy. Mehdi Bennani was eighth and James Thompson 10th, in front of Yvan Muller.
Slowest was Tom Coronel, whose session ended early when the front-left wheel on his Chevrolet worked loose, triggering a red flag.
The action resumes tomorrow with qualifying at 14h30, prior to the two races in the evening.
