Andersson ready to go home

Two-time Junior World Rally Champion P-G Andersson is looking to continue the speed he and the PROTON team showed on last month’s Super 2000 WRC opener when the series arrives in his native Sweden next week.

Andersson dominated the SWRC category of Rallye Monte-Carlo, but was forced out of his seven-minute lead after an under-bonnet fire halted his Satria-Neo S2000. The PROTON driver led Rally Sweden after the opening stage last season, but dropped back when he rolled the Ford Fiesta RS WRC he was driving.

Andersson will tackle Rally Finnskog in Norway on Saturday as the final part of his preparations for next week.

“I’m really looking forward to Sweden,” said Andersson. “It’s always nice to drive at home. The thing we need on the event is good conditions. There is nothing better than driving good snow stages on a proper winter rally. Last year’s Swedish was fantastic and I hope it will be the same againNowr next week.

“The event on Saturday will give us a good chance to finalise the set-up of the PROTON before the start. It also gives you a good chance to get back into the rhythm of driving on the studded tyres and using the snow banks on the exit of the corners. We had a good lead in Monte Carlo, it would be nice to be in that kind of position again!”
