Wilks has "unfinished business" in the IRC

Guy Wilks says his frustrating season in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge represents “unfinished business”.

Thirty-year-old Wilks started the year as one of the IRC title favourites in his Peugeot UK 207 Super 2000. But a torrid campaign, when he failed to score a single point during the second half of the year, meant he languished in seventh place in the final standings.

His season of woe was compounded when he retired on kilometre from the finish of the final stage of RACMSA Rally of Scotland back in October, his 10th and final appearance of 2011.

“It should have been a fairytale year for us - driving for Peugeot UK and working with Marc van Dalen and all the guys at Kronos,” said Wilks, who was co-driven by fellow Briton Phil Pugh. “But we’ve been dogged by bad luck all season and absolutely nothing has gone our way.”

Despite the various setbacks, Wilks achieved a podium finish on Rallye Monte-Carlo in January and claimed 10 fastest stage times. He is already working on plans to return to the IRC in 2012.

“The car is fast enough to win and I hope I get the opportunity to prove it next year,” said Wilks. “It’s unfinished business and I will only come back stronger.”
