Wilks excited by Monte-Carlo prospects

Guy Wilks would relish the prospect of several star names, including Didier Auriol and Kimi Räikkönen, contesting Rallye Monte-Carlo in January.

Ex-Formula One world champion Räikkönen and rallying legend Auriol have been linked to outings on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge season-opener, which takes place from 18-22 January.

Wilks, who will drive a Peugeot UK 207 Super 2000 alongside navigator Phil Pugh on the centenary edition of the event, said: “It’s brilliant, absolutely fantastic if it happens. They are legends in their own right and the attraction of Monte-Carlo, particularly on such a special year, means you can see why they want to do it.

“Monte-Carlo gives you that pure enjoyment factor as a driver and it’s also so challenging with no two stages the same. It’s such a lottery but you can see it being a great party of they all turn out.”

Wilks finished sixth on last January’s Rallye Monte-Carlo in a Škoda UK Motorsport-run Fabia S2000. He will switch to Peugeot UK for an expanded IRC campaign in 2011.
