WTCC Donington - Qualifying : They (...)

Yvan MULLER – pole position: “It was not an easy session. In Q1 I did not want to take the risk and set a lap that was a bit faster than I had planned but sent me safe to Q2. Then I actually took a risk on my second lap in Q2 at Coppice. I wanted to check how good… or how bad the grip was, but I was a bit too fast and went onto the gravel. I had not much time, but luckily it was just enough for cooling down my tyres, getting rid of the dirt and setting the pole.”

Rob HUFF – 2nd fastest: “I made a mistake at the end of my first Q2 lap. The back straight gave me the impression that the track was drier than it actually was and I lost the back of the car while in the final hairpin. There was time enough to recover and the rest of the session was good. I was very close to Yvan, only eight hundredths behind him…“

Alain MENU – 3rd fastest: “All in all I an quite pleased with my third place in qualifying, considering that I was struggling to find a good balance since yesterday. Especially this morning in then wet, I was not happy at all, but we made a few changes and now the car is much better to drive on the wet and the dry.”

Colin TURKINGTON – 5th fastest, best of Yokohama Trophy: “I am very pleased, because it is not easy returning to the championship, getting to know a new team and learning how to drive the turbocharged BMW. On top of this I had a few problems this morning that shortened my track time. I have to admit that the fact the track dried up so soon was a bit of a help, because the car is more critical to drive in the wet.”
