WRC 2: Kubica leads at Saturday midpoint
Elfyn Evans is second with Wiegand rounding off the top three
Robert Kubica maintained his unblemished record of stage victories at Rally de Espana by winning all three of Saturday morning’s tests to extend his WRC 2 lead to 1min 31.0sec over Elfyn Evans.
Kubica, who requires a top two finish in his Citroen DS3 RRC to secure the category title, is 10th overall.
Evans, driving a Ford Fiesta R5, holds a comfortable 1min 27.3sec advantage over the Skoda Fabia S2000 of Sepp Wiegand. The German broke a wheel rim in SS5 but escaped serious time loss.
Yazeed Al Rajhi remains fourth but Robert Barrable lost fifth when the Irishman broke a front driveshaft in his Fiesta R5 on the road section to SS6. He removed the component before tackling the stage in three-wheel drive.
