Swedish driver Patrik Flodin is aiming to win this year’s Production Car World Rally Championship after upgrading his one-off wild card entry in Rally Sweden to a full six-round title campaign.

Flodin was one of the sensations of the 2010 season opener, winning the P-WRC category in his Subaru Impreza by more that one minute and scooping a maximum 25 championship points.

But with no other rallies confirmed in this year’s P-WRC season, it looked unlikely Flodin would able to build on his excellent start.

Now, however, Flodin has brokered a deal with Russian Uspensky Rally Team which will keep him in the P-WRC for the whole season.

"It was great to start the season with full points and we wanted to carry on but we needed to get some more sponsors before we could commit to the season," said Flodin. "We still have a little more sponsorship money to find, but I hope the hunt will be easier now. The car and the cooperation with the team is perfect, so it will be really, really fun to drive the whole season and I’ve definitely go the title in my sights."

Flodin and co-driver Goran Bergsten will tackle the upcoming S-WRC rounds in Jordan, Finland, Deutschland, Japan and Great Britain. This year they will also tackle the Chinese Rally Championship driving a Mitsubishi Lancer run by the Hongyun Honghe Rally Team.

Flodin’s enty in this year’s P-WRC brings the total number of entrants to 17 and makes up for the departure of the Hungarian driver Gabor Meyer and his Gaboko Hungary Autôsport Egyesület team.

Meyer should have started his first rally of the season in Mexico but withdrew from the series at the eleventh hour citing sponsorship and taxation problems which prevented him obtaining a competition licence from the Hungarian Automobile Association.
