Six drivers penalised after qualifying

Six drivers were handed grid position penalties for tomorrow’s feature race in Abu Dhabi after they failed to heed the red light and drove out of the pitlane when the circuit was closed at the end of this afternoon’s qualifying session.

The drivers are Dani Clos, Jules Bianchi, Pastor Maldonado, Sam Bird, Jerome d’Ambrosio and Giedo van der Garde: all six drivers will drop ten spots on the grid tomorrow.

All bar d’Ambrosio, van der Garde and champion-elect Maldonado have a mathematical chance of taking second in the Series Standings away from Sergio Perez, although this is now substantially reduced given their starting positions: their fight is now likely to be over third place in standings.
